The Young Citizen of the Year Campaign (YCY) is a fantastic opportunity for young people, between the ages of 8 and 20, to organise your very own fundraising activity from start to finish and take part in some voluntary work for your local community. Whether you prefer to stick to tried and tested ways of raising money, or are up for a challenge and ready to have a go at a totally new and novel activity, the YCY Campaign gives you the chance to get involved in activities you never thought of doing before and have fun doing the things you are good at. Over 300 individuals from 18 schools took part in the Young Citizen of the Year Award 2005/6. Bobby Richardson (pictured above with Coronation Street stars) won the Cheshire Building Society Individual award for Young Citizen of the Year 2006 at the awards ceremony in July. Since the YCY project launched in September last year, Bobby has remained a committed participant throughout and has been involved in several initiatives which have included running a stall at St Ann’s Hospice Summer Fair, organising an Easter raffle in school, and pioneering the sales of Hospice merchandise at school.
