A massive Congratulations to St Ann’s Hospice on the 40th anniversary. The place is so special, a light when things have gone dark, a hand when there has previously been none to hold and a support without which you’d fall. First held in May 2003 as a legacy event following the 2002 Commonwealth Games, the Bupa Great Manchester Run has developed into a weekend festival of running, including Junior & Mini vents and the Great CityGames, where Deansgate is transformed into a sprint track to host the fastest runners on the planet.

In recent years, tens of thousands of spectators and a live TV audience have witnessed the worlds greatest distance runner Haile Gebrselassie win the Bupa Great Manchester Run on an unprecedented four occasions, with Britain’s Jo Pavey winning the women’s event twice.

Over a quarter of a million people have entered the event since 10,000 people first took to the streets in 2003 Approximately 25,000 runners of all abilities have already entered for 2012.
