For healthcare professionals

St Ann’s Hospice is one of the largest adult hospices in the UK – and is the largest in the North West (Greater Manchester).

St Ann’s Hospice provides specialist palliative care to adults living in Greater Manchester who have been diagnosed with a progressive life-threatening illness. We’ve been operating for around 40 years and were one of the first hospices in the UK.

Admitting a patient to the hospice

We try to admit patients to the hospice as quickly as possible – depending on the needs of the patient and availability of beds. However, all our admissions must come through the submission of our referral form by a healthcare professional.

More about the hospice

Across three sites (Heald Green in Stockport, Little Hulton near Worsley and the Neil Cliffe Cancer Care Centre at Wythenshawe Hospital) we have 58 beds (34 at Heald Green and 24 at Little Hulton) and employ around 300 staff. We provide a care ratio of around 2:1.

By far the majority of our patients are admitted with cancer-related illnesses. We also admit patients with non-cancer-related illnesses, for example chronic heart failure, chronic lung disease and neurological diseases such as motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease. How to get to know the hospice

Perhaps one of the best ways for a healthcare professional to get to know more about the hospice and its activities is through one of our free information afternoons. These provide a general introduction to the hospice and are easy to fit into your busy schedule. You can also find out more by contacting the inpatients’ manager at either Heald Green (0161 437 8136) or Little Hulton (0161 702 8181).

A centre for education in specialist palliative care

We’re also recognised as a centre of education, providing training courses on palliative care to healthcare professionals from all around the UK.
