The Festival Choir was established following performances of Haydn's
The Creation and Handel's Messiah as part of Voices For Hospices. After St Ann's
Hospice had organised four performances there was such a positive response that
it seemed there was sufficient interest from choral singers in the area to form
a choir.
The St Ann's Hospice Festival Choir gave its first concert as a permanent choir in December 1995 at Stockport Town Hall.
The choir seeks to raise funds for the Hospice and at the same time, take part in one of the most enjoyable and challenging musical experiences - choral singing.
Due to its commitment to perform a high standard of disciplined singing, the Choir has had the opportunity to perform with the BBC Philharmonic and Hallé Orchestras. It has appeared on Songs of Praise twice, produced a CD of Christmas music and given concerts at the Royal Northern College of Music, the Bridgewater Hall and Manchester Cathedral.
