How often does the taxman give money away?!...

Changes that came into effect from April 2000 have made tax-effective giving to charity easier, making your donation worth more to us, and in
some cases saving you money on
your tax bill.

If you pay tax, you can complete a Gift Aid form which means that we can reclaim the basic rate tax on your donation from the Inland Revenue.
In effect this means that a £100 donation from you will be worth £128.20 to us.

Higher rate tax payers

If you are a higher rate tax payer, you can also benefit from Gift Aid. Your Basic Rate (BR) tax band will be increased by an equivalent amount to this reclaim this means you could save 18% tax on your donation.

You make a donation of:
£1000.00
We reclaim £1,000 x 100/78ths
(the basic rate of tax @22%)
£ 282.05
You can reclaim the remaining tax (40% - 22% + 18%)*
£230.77
The donation has cost you
£769.23
Your donation is now worth to us
£1,282.05
*Through your self assessment tax claim

You only have to complete one Gift Aid form to secure relief on all donations from April 2000 until your tax liability changes. You must let us know if you stop paying tax at the basic rate.
