When my Mum died at St Ann’s Hospice 25 years ago, I promised when I retired I would come back and volunteer. Now I’ve been here 3 years and I’ve never looked back.Mavis Mathews, St Ann’s Hospice volunteer

Apply to be a volunteer
Get the ball rolling and apply to be a St Ann’s Hospice volunteer.
As well as knowing that you are supporting a great local charity, volunteering can be a good way of meeting new people and learning new skills, or maybe re-awaking ones that have not been used for a while! Whatever your reasons for wanting to join our team, we would love to have you and can offer a supportive environment where you can really feel you are making a difference in people’s lives.
To consider when applying to be a volunteer
All appointments are made subject to a suitable vacancy being available. References are requested and should not be from family/relatives but someone who has known you for at least five years and would be able to comment on your suitability for voluntary work. Given the nature of our work all volunteer applicants wanting to be placed within the hospice will be required to undertake a Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure. This is to safeguard our patients and ensure that we place everyone in suitable voluntary positions.
