I find that seeing the work that goes on for the hospice has been a very humbling but also an uplifting experience in my life. I have got back from it as I have given and how can you fault that.Ann Farthing, St Ann’s Hospice volunteer

Current needs

We really need volunteers for specific areas – please see if you can help.

The fundraising team at St Ann’s Hospice needs you!

From delivering fliers, packing bags to photographing our events, we offer a wide range of volunteering opportunities that help you and us.

Ambassador:

Being an Ambassador for St Ann’s is all about spreading the word. As an Ambassador, your voice is the most powerful tool you have. You can use your voice to empower other people to become a part of our fundraising movement by simply passing on who we are and what we do. We’ll provide you with the relevant training to confidently represent St Ann’s at fundraising events.

We’ll work together to find those events best suited to the geographical area you are happy to cover and the frequency that suits you best. A typical event involves receiving a cheque on behalf of St Ann’s, saying a few words about us and sometimes helping out with on the night fundraising activities. If you’ve warmed up your voice and are ready to shout about us, please contact us.

Events:

Our events are not just organised and run by the St Ann’s staff team, but also by the fantastic general public who support us and the work we do. Their events can be anything from raffles, dinners or Christmas parties and take place anywhere from pubs, golf clubs or local community halls. Being an events volunteer will give you hands on experience of what fundraising involves, whether that’s from manning stalls, selling raffle tickets or registering participants at our Midnight Walk. Not only will your time be a massive support to St Ann’s, we aim for you to gain transferable skills that you can take into your personal or professional life. To register as an events volunteer please don’t hesitate to get in touch. To check out the latest events we’re planning right now, please go to our events calendar.

Other opportunities:

Would you wear your best frock to put the smelly socks in the washing machine? Or wear your most expensive shoes to dig the garden? Like life, not all our opportunities call for suits and ball gowns. However, without them filled, we’d be missing a massive part of what makes our volunteering programme such a success.

  • If you can drive, we’re always looking for people to pick up and deliver our collection boxes, merchandise, or transporting publicity and merchandise between our three sites (and we can offer you out of pocket travel expenses).
  • If you’re a natural organiser, our supermarket, football match and city centre collections will be right up your street.
  • Are you more suited to an office environment? At our Heald Green and Little Hulton sites we always need administrative and research support.

Drivers

We always need drivers to bring patients to day care and take them home again. Drivers must be in possession of a valid driving licence, a MOT certificate (where appropriate) and comprehensive insurance cover. Our patients would be very grateful for any support you could offer.

Charity shop volunteers

Our charity shops rely on the generosity of volunteers giving their valuable time and support. We are opening new shops all the time in different areas across Greater Manchester. Read more about becoming a shop volunteer here.
