Become a fundraising volunteer
If you are specifically interested in becoming a volunteer that supports the fundraising team, there are lots of varied opportunities that may suit your skills. From driving, administration to photography to placing items on eBay, we hope there is something for everyone.
Be an ambassador for St Ann’s Hospice
Help by being an ambassador for St Ann’s where you will be fully trained to represent the Hospice in the community at fundraising events. This could be any frequency that suits you for example, one event a month (or more, or less). We can organise which events you represent St Ann’s Hospice according to the geographical area you are happy to cover.
Many of these events take part in the evenings but from time to time there are day time events. There are also a number of school assemblies for anybody who has an educational background – if you are interested in this, please contact our youth fundraising officer, Melanie Gait, on 0161 498 3621, e-mail mgait@sah.org.uk.
In general at most events you will receive a cheque on behalf of the hospice and may be asked to say a few words about St Ann’s. You may also be asked to help supporters with ‘on-the-night’ fundraising activities such as co-ordinating raffles, tombolas, auctions. You may also need to return donations to the Hospice according to our cash handling guidelines.
Help with driving
Delivering and collecting items in and around Greater Manchester including Manchester City Centre. We can organise this according to the geographical area you are happy to cover. Jobs include:
- Collection box pick ups and deliveries
- Merchandise pick ups and deliveries
- Transporting publicity and merchandise to each site (Little Hulton, Heald Green, Neil Cliffe Cancer Care Centre)
Please note that your own transport is required and travel expenses can be claimed.
Help at bucket collections & bag packs
Help with various supermarket collections, football match collections, city centre collections and packing bags at supermarkets. We also require people who can organise the collections on the day and return donations to one of the Hospice sites.
Help at fundraising events
You can help at a number of fundraising events organised by St Ann’s staff and also by members of the general public. Some examples are as follows:
- Events organised by the general public – at pubs, social clubs, churches, community halls, golf clubs etc
- Hospice events including Christmas and Summer Fairs, Manchester Midnight Walk, Gala Balls, Ladies Fashion Lunch and sporting events such as golf days.
Your help will include various activities such as manning stalls, selling raffle tickets, registering participants, parading auction prizes and general help as required at the event.
Help in the office at one of our Hospice sites – Heald Green / Little Hulton
- Helping secure stock to sell at events and gain prizes for various raffles, auctions and tombolas (by ringing and/or writing to people).
- Help with office administration according to experience and skills: making and receiving phone calls, sending out letters, using our donor database.
- Phoning volunteers for planned fundraising activities to fill rotas
- Help, as part of a team of volunteers, with the fulfillment of our mailings at various times of the year.
- Read through newspapers and magazines to find articles mentioning St Ann’s Hospice and keeping our cuttings file up to date.
- Research other charities to see what is happening in the area and introduce fundraising and PR ideas to the team
- Research charitable trusts that may be able to fund capital projects
- Checking our website regularly to ensure material is not out of date and links work
Proposal writing
If you have a strong background as a bid writer/proposals there may be an opportunity to assist staff in making applications for grants from charitable trusts. Training will be provided.
Photography
If you have a skill or interest in photography, there is an opportunity to attend fundraising events to take photographs for publicity purposes.
eBay/internet
For those people who are interested in the internet, from time to time there may be an opportunity to put fundraising items for sale on eBay or update our photos and videos on various websites such as Flickr and YouTube.
There are many other opportunities to help
This is not an exhaustive list and there will be many more ways in which you can help. If you have any specific skills that you feel may be of interest to us, please do not hesitate to talk to us to see if we can utilise them in some way!
