The St Ann's Hospice Multi-Professional Team... Doctors, Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Social Workers, Complementary Therapists, Pharmacist, Counsellors, Specialist Nurses (Psychological and Macmillan), Dietitian, Chaplains, Volunteers, Support and Administration staff, Fundraisers Introduction St Ann's Hospice has been delivering care for over 30 years and provides services, free of charge, to people with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses, from the point of diagnosis onwards. The service is also available to families and those caring for people who are ill. Whatever the needs of the patients and their carers - physical, emotional, psychological, social or spiritual - St Ann's Hospice can make a difference. People accessing the service are cared for by a multi-professional team who work together to ensure that individual needs are met, as far as is possible. St Ann's Hospice is one of the largest adult hospice in the UK, with 66 beds and cares for more than 3,000 people each year. An independent charity, St Ann's Hospice provides its care free of charge. St Ann's Hospice needs 7.8 million to offer its wide range of services each year. Currently it receives only 28% of this from the government, leaving 5.6 million - that is 15,000 a day - that must be raised through voluntary contributions, Legacies, Hospice Lottery, fundraising and trading activities. Services Inpatient Services St Ann's Hospice has two inpatient units with a total of 66 beds. Patients may be admitted to the inpatient units for a variety of reasons including symptom control, care following treatments such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy, specialist respite care or care at the end of life Inpatients are able to access a range of services provided by members of the multi-disciplinary team. Carers are also able to access support from staff with specialist training. Day Therapy Day Therapy services which include day care, supportive outpatients and medical outpatients allow patients and carers to self-refer and gives people the opportunity to receive support and rehabilitation to help them cope with their illness. Community Services Community Support includes Respite Teams, for Trafford and Salford, that work to support people in their own homes, providing specialist palliative care without the need to be admitted as an In-Patient. There is also a Community Specialist Palliative Care Team (Macmillan) based at Little Hulton. Bereavement support is also provided in people's own homes, in addition to support on site. Other Services include: Day Care (provided at Heald Green and Little Hulton) Supportive outpatients and medical outpatients (provided at Heald Green, Little Hulton and the Neil Cliffe Cancer Care Centre Physiotherapy Dietetics Occupational Therapy Chaplaincy Social Work and bereavement support Counselling Complementary therapies A 24 hour advice line is also available to healthcare professionals and carers who are seeking out of hours advice Fundraising St Ann's Hospice has always relied on the generosity of the local community to make up the majority of its funding. This is done through a variety of ways Community and corporate fundraising events such as a Gala Ball, Golf Days, Balloon Race, Christmas Fairs, Garden Party, Abseils and more Third party fundraising events, held on our behalf Voluntary donations from the community and businesses Corporate sponsorship for events, services and hospice publications The Patron Scheme and Corporate Care Scheme Specific fundraising appeals for both capital and core costs Joining national initiatives like the Hospice Care Campaign, an annual awareness week The St Ann's Hospice Lottery, which boasts a 2,000 first prize each week Legacies and in memoriam donations Charity shops and other trading activities, such as the sale of novelties and Christmas cards Tax efficient giving, including Gift Aid, Payroll Giving and Share Giving The St Ann's Hospice Festival Choir holds concerts and workshops Street collections and counter top collection tins All funds are gratefully received and contribute towards maintaining and developing our services. St Ann's Hospice is proud that 89.1p of every 1 is spent directly on patient care. Institute for Learning and Development What is it? As an integral part of St Ann's Hospice, the overall aim of the Institute is to lead, support and encourage the provision of the best possible care to improve the quality of life. How does it work? The themes of Clinical Governance support the work of the Institute for Learning and Development by integrating: Clinical Audit Education and Training Research and Development Practice Development Risk Management User Involvement Developments in practice, based on evidence are introduced within the organisation leading towards our ultimate objectives of providing the highest possible level of care for patients and their families. What does all this mean? The Hospice has gained a national reputation as a centre of excellence in providing palliative care. This in turn benefits patients and encourages healthcare professional staff to train with or join the Hospice, and contributes to raising the profile of the Hospice as a whole.
