"I really enjoyed the palliative care side of District Nursing. However I didn't dare apply for a hospice job because I didn't have any experience. The course and its two-week work placement convinced me that hospice care was for me. "I lapped up the course," continued Martha. "The tutors were excellent and everyone was so helpful. The course was a good mix of theoretical and practical work." |
St Ann's Hospice has enjoyed a long tradition for the education and training of both its own staff, and those working in other care sectors. The Articles of Association recognise the importance of training as an essential addition to maintaining the continuously high standard of patient care offered by St Ann's Hospice staff.
Since 1981 formal education courses and in-service training have been offered and as might be expected in a 30-year history, education has seen many developments at local and national levels. The emphasis of training today is on "life-long learning", and learning by doing, or "experiential learning". By providing an open study environment we believe attendees gain the benefit from sharing knowledge with others and learning from real life experience.
In addition to an internal emphasis, the education and training department has sought to raise the standards of palliative care across all health and social care providers. This year's programme reflects the many different aspects of palliative care and the varied backgrounds of the healthcare workers involved in providing it. Alongside our established courses and study days we are also able to tailor make courses to meet your individual requirements. We are proud to offer:
