Practice Development

The value of learning in and from practice is formally recognised at St Ann’s Hospice by the appointment of two part time Practice Development Nurses. They work cross site at Heald Green and Little Hulton respectively. In collaboration with the In-patient Service Managers, Ward Managers and Team Leaders, they support staff in the clinical area to ensure that practice remains relevant, up to date and at a uniformly high standard.

Key Duties

• In response to identified needs, work towards risk reduction in clinical areas.
• Take the lead in reviewing and updating clinical practice.
• Support the development and dissemination of clinical policies and provide any necessary training.
• Manage and develop the in service training programme for clinical staff.
• Manage and update the clinical induction programmes.
• Support staff with student placements and facilitate mentorship programmes.
• Organise and facilitate information afternoons for local healthcare professionals and students, thereby promoting the hospice and specialist palliative care services.
