Wilmslow Lions funding for St Ann’s

A wishing well and Wilmslow Lions helped raise £600 to provide free care for patients with life-threatening illnesses at St Ann’s Hospice at Heald Green, Cheadle.

Customers threw coins into the wishing well at Parker’s Garden Centre in Wilmslow, and together with a raffle, funds raised were matched by a donation from Wilmslow Lions Club.

St Ann’s Fundraising Officer, Dipti Lakhani, said: “This sort of generous support we receive in the community from organisations like Wilmslow Lions is vital, as we have to raise £16,000 a day in voluntary contributions to keep our doors open.”

Busby Babes’ donation in memory of Man United star

Former Manchester United players donated towards a £3,500 cheque presented to St Ann’s Hospice in memory of ‘Busby Babe’ John Doherty, who died at the Hospice in Heald Green last year.

Members of the Association of Former Manchester United Players represented by former United manager Wilf McGuinness and another ‘Busby Babe’, Alan Wardle, joined John’s widow, Barbara, in presenting the cheque, which was also made up of donation’s in lieu of funeral flowers.

Mr McGuinness said: “John was chairman of United’s former players association, and will always be remembered as a great man to be with and a great player.” They met Staff Nurse Andrew Wells who helped look after Mr Doherty in his finals day, and presented their cheque to St Ann’s Fundraising Officer, Louise Kelly.

Volunteers funding for Midnight Walk

Volunteers from Little Hulton Focus Group are pictured presenting £2,400 towards the cost of T-shirts and overheads for our Manchester Midnight Walk on May 23 from the City of Manchester Stadium – home of Manchester City Football Club.

The volunteers raised the funds following a series of events including bring-and-buy sales and coach tours to the seaside. Community Fundraising Officer Margaret Beck said: “This is a magnificent gesture by the Focus Group volunteers, which will help cover the costs of staging the Midnight Walk so that more of the money raised by the event will go towards caring fort our patients.”

Cheshire Masons support for St Ann’s

Freemasons from Cheshire have donated over £8,000 to help provide free care for people with life-threatening illnesses at St Ann’s Hospice in Heald Green near Cheadle.

A cheque for £6,219 from the national body for masons, the United Grand Lodge in London, was presented by Peter Owen, Assistant Provincial Grand Master for Cheshire Freemasons, together with another £2,000 raised by Masons across Cheshire.

“Our donation demonstrates our commitment to the community in which we live, and especially the work of St Ann’s Hospice in helping those who need it most of all,” said Peter.

St Ann’s Fundraising Officer, Louise Kelly, said: “We really appreciate the generosity of the Cheshire Freemans for the donation, as many of our patients are from Cheshire, and we have to raise £16,000 a day in voluntary contributions to finance the free care the hospice provides.”

Robbie Williams tribute show for Hospice

A tribute show to pop star Robbie Williams at the Old Plough pub in Green Lane, Ashton-on-Mersey on January 23 will raise funds in aid of St Ann’s Hospice, the charity which provides free care for people with life-threatening illnesses across Greater Manchester.

Mike Parsons, manager of the Hydes Brewery, said:” We have already raised over £1,000 for the Hospice with our Christmas raffle and New Year’s eve party, so we are looking forward to topping up our fundraising with our Robbie William tribute show.”
