Manchester Midnight Walk kicks off with a bang!

Premiership and England footballer Shaun Wright Phillips (our Friends cover star) popped into St Ann’s to celebrate record numbers of Midnight Walkers in March.

Getting behind the event he said: “I urge everyone to register and show their support for one for the areas most valued charity resources.” Registrations continue to flood in and we hope to reach a record number of 3,000 by June 12, making it one of the biggest midnight walks in the country. Don’t be late. Book now!”

We’ve had such fun promoting our annual Manchester Midnight Walk so far this year! The campaign was launched with 50 eager pyjama-clad volunteers taking part in a ‘flashmob’.

The ‘mob’ was created to simulate what the actual walk will be like, with a little helping hand from the motivating beat of the Rocky theme tune, which was needed to warm the mob up in sub-zero February temperatures.

Commenting on the launch was Chief Executive, Terry McDonnell: “Year-on-year, in order to leverage participation for the walk we have to create more innovative ways of getting the public involved. We jumped at the chance of utilising the phenomenon that is a flashmob, something that we as a hospice have never been associated with in the past.”

This year’s walk, he says, is crucial to the hospice in terms of generating funds: “The current economic climate could affect future funding for the hospice,“ continues Terry. “I appeal to everyone to register and take part on June 12. It’s a fun night for all the family, a good chance to spot one or two celebs and a great calorie burner!”

Last year staff from Addleshaw Goddard – our main supporter for the second year running – made a big impression dressed as 118 118. Whatever will they wear this year? They raised an impressive £1,494 for the Hospice.

118-118What will the Addleshaw team be wearing this year?!
