Young citizen of the Year

It’s not just the older generation who put their efforts into volunteering and fundraising. Impressive efforts often come from those aged between 8 and 20.

Students from schools across Greater Manchester are involved in this year’s Young Citizen of the Year (YCY), which encourages young people to get involved in local causes as well as volunteer their time to fundraise for St Ann’s. Their hard work will be rewarded on Friday July 3 at the fabulous YCY Awards.

Fundraiser Liz Greenwood says “participating schools will be invited to attend to celebrate their achievements over the past year.” This year there have been some fantastic volunteering and fundraising events, including Bridgewater School’s ‘Sweets for My Sweet’ and Cheetham Community School’s elaborate Chinese New Year celebrations. Meanwhile Outwood Primary School got their hands dirty in the hospice garden.

“It’s great that young people want to get involved,“ says Liz. “The awards are always really well attended and enjoyed by all.” This year Key 103’s Chelsea Norris is presenting the awards.
