Community-spirited organisation
Staff at St Ann’s Hospice in Heald Green are the winners of the Pride of Stockport Awards 2010 ‘Community-Spirited Organisation’ award.
The judges chose St Ann’s Hospice “because of the excellent support they give to local people during one of the most difficult times in our lives – when someone near and dear has a terminal illness”.
Nominator Mrs Valerie Lennon said:” My sister was admitted after battling with cancer for 12 years. She had been in and out of various hospitals but remained very positive.
“When doctors could no longer help her, she was admitted to St Ann’s Hospice. She was very afraid and knew it would be her final journey.
“After a week she was at peace with herself due to the amazing staff there. They are indeed angels. Nothing was too much trouble for them.”

As well as the dedicated care, St Ann’s raises two-thirds of its funding from donations and they continue their excellent work even during this challenging economic climate. For every £1 they spend, 93 pence goes directly on patient care and support for that.
Leader of Stockport’s Boost Taskforce Cllr Dave Goddard said: “As well as providing care, St Ann’s is run on a business basis and adds so much to the lives of families. The staff and the Hospice help so many in Stockport to be resilient during difficult times; as well as their amazing care, they have not wavered from their business-like commitment and they should be recognised for the brilliant job they do.”
