Day Therapy

Day Therapy encompasses a range of services, which come under 3 main headings:

Day Care

Kitty Timmons accessed both Day Therapy and Inpatient services in St Ann's Hospice in Heald Green from March 2004.

"I love coming in to St Ann's. I have been in several times as an Inpatient and also come to Day Therapy when I am at home. You can do so many things at Day Therapy and I like the companionship of meeting lots of different people and making new friends. A voluntary driver picks me up and takes me home as well - they are very good and so helpful."

Kitty died at St Ann's Hospice on 31st May 2004

Attending Day Care will give the patient a day away from home and offers an opportunity to share any worries they may have with the staff. It also allows a rest day for the family or carer. In addition we can help the person gain more confidence at home by assessing their personal needs, helping them overcome them wherever possible.

Patients can access services such as medical and nursing care, spiritual support, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, hairdressing and beauty treatments as well as varied creative and social activities. Day Care is available at Heald Green and Little Hulton.

Day Therapy allows patients to enjoy a creativity they thought they had lost, to be able to continue to participate in life and have a degree of normality albeit in the context of advanced disease. It also allows a rest day for the carer.

Although everyone has different needs, we do have a general routine. People usually arrive around 10am and will be offered tea or coffee. Lunch is served at midday and at approximately 2.30pm we have afternoon tea and cake. People leave for home around 3pm.

Day Care Activities may include:

Medical Palliative Care Clinics

These are provided by the Palliative Care Consultants and Medical Teams at each of our three sites, for patients and carers.

The clinics are available to discuss any medical concerns people have regarding their illness. Our team will communicate with hospital consultants/ GPs if necessary.
