When anyone says to me that they couldn’t think of volunteering in a hospice, I reply – well don’t – try one of the charity shops instead, it’s not direct hands on but it is still helping the hospice.Ann Farthing, St Ann’s Hospice volunteer

Volunteer

Our shops can’t manage without the help and support of volunteers.

We raise thousands of pounds from our Charity Shops each year, which is then put towards funding patient care at each of our hospice sites. This is made possible by the work and commitment of our shop volunteers.

Each of our charity shops has a committed team of volunteers, working alongside a paid manager. Without the help and support of our volunteers, we would not be able to run our shops and we are very grateful for everyone who donates their time and skills.

“I couldn’t stay away!”

Mary (pictured above right) recently moved to the Cheadle area and popped into her local St Ann’s charity shop to find some bargains. She liked the friendly atmosphere so much she signed up as a volunteer! Mary now has a new circle of friends and helps support a great charity.

There are many different roles that are covered by volunteers in each of our shops. These include;

  • Accepting donations
  • Sorting
  • Steaming
  • Pricing
  • Window displays, merchandising
  • Serving customers
  • Promoting the Hospice
  • General housekeeping
  • CD, DVD and book organisation
  • Collection and delivery of furniture
  • Movement of donations between shops

We offer a great, friendly environment, on the job training, a generous discount and the chance to help a really great cause, so what’s stopping you?!

To volunteer in one of our shops download an application form or call into any of our branches.
