The countdown to Parade in the Park in Walkden is under way with a youth theatre school set to make the day go with a swing!

Singing and dancing from 100 performers from AKTA will bring colour to the party in Parr Fold Park on Saturday, September 30.

The young performers will also join scores of children and parents in our 1k sponsored walk.

The AKTA Theatre School, based in Holyoake Road, Walkden, is run by Adam Kerr whose own story inspires up and coming performers.  He grew up in Walkden and auditioned to win a scholarship to train at professional theatre college in Liverpool where he graduated with distinction.

He said: “I travelled the world for 10 years as a professional singer and dancer after being told when I was little that I’d never make it.

“Our performers range in age from four to 16 and we stage public performances which give children confidence and make them believe they can chase their dream no matter where they come from.

“There’s a fantastic community spirit in Walkden and I’d encourage as many as possible to join the walk which raises money for St Ann’s.”

The event starts at 10 am and walk at 11 am. Entry is £7 per child, or £5 per child for groups of three or more children. Adults go free. To enter call 0161 498 3631, email events@sah.org.uk or go to sah.org.uk/parade.

Event Organiser Fran Wilson said: “Parade in the Park is a brand new, exciting event and fun for all the family. Some of those walking will want to honour the memory of loved ones and will be given dedication ribbons of remembrance which are placed on the bandstand for one week after the event.”
