Business professionals from across Greater Manchester braved the elements to play in the finals of the ninth annual Manchester Professionals’ Football League (MPFL) in aid of us, as the 7 week league came to an end.

The 5-a-side football tournament – hosted annually by professional services recruitment specialist Sellick Partnership – has become a staple event of the Manchester business community attracting some of the North West’s most prominent organisations. This year 24 teams took part including BNY Mellon, EY and PwC.

The Co-operative Group were crowned overall winners after beating Money Advice Group in an intense final game, taking home the MPFL Cup. Softcat also had cause for celebration after beating Zeus Capital to take home the Plate.

We’ve come to the end of another super league and once again I have been blown away by the standard of the competition. Each and every team competed boldly, and I am delighted that MPFL nine has been a complete success. I am especially grateful for the monetary donations given by each of the competing teams. This money will be donated to our chosen charity St Ann’s Hospice, and will help them continue the vital work that they do for people with life-limiting conditions across Greater Manchester. Without fundraising events like the MPFL, St Ann’s Hospice would not be able to continue. Ray Wareing, MPFL organiser and Sellick Partnership Director

Since its formation in 2009 the MPFL has raised approximately £9,000 for St Ann’s, a figure that has helped us provide care such as therapy sessions and bereavement support for hundreds of people across Greater Manchester.

The amount raised for our patients by the MPFL since 2009 is incredible, and we are so grateful to everyone involved.  As a charity, we rely on the support of local individuals and organisations alike to enable us to continue providing care to local people, so I can’t stress enough what a difference donations like this make. Well done to everyone involved. Eamonn O’Neal, Chief Executive of St Ann’s Hospice
