Teacher takes on ambitious charity trek for St Ann’s
Teaching assistant Andrew Shevlin is following in the footsteps of his mum Breeda by undertaking an ambitious charity trek.
Nine years ago she climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain, raising £7,000 for St Ann’s where she is a Macmillan nurse.
Andrew (25) will follow the classic Inca Trail to Machu Piccu in August, raising funds for St Ann’s also.
Andrew, who teaches children with special needs how to use communication devices, is climbing Kinder Scout and Mount Snowdon with his six-year-old black labrador Albert to prepare for his adventure.

I was going to Peru on holiday anyway and my mum suggested I do the four-day trek and raise funds for the hospice like she did, so now it's my turn. I'm not sure what to expect and it's going to be difficult covering the 43-kilometre route in the heat, but I'm fairly confident I can do it. My mum has been a Macmillan specialist nurse for more than 15 years, working closely with St Ann’s Hospice. It's an incredible place that relies mainly on charitable donations to provide the high standard of care that makes such a difference to people’s lives.
