By News Team on June 19, 2018

A kind-hearted man from Heald Green who won the top prize in our hospice lottery has donated all the money back to St Ann’s.

Douglas Appleton, has been playing our Local Lottery for 22 years and has had a few small wins previously before winning the top prize of £2,000.

Mr Appleton has supported St Ann’s for 35 years since his wife, Joan, passed away there in 1983.

He also volunteered for 15 years with the hospice as a day care driver and on the reception and received a certificate for his long service.

I was surprised to found out I won but I knew straight away that I wanted to donate the money back to St Ann’s, as I know how much they depend on the donations to help care for patients. Douglas Appleton
