Poynton Runners dig deep for St Ann’s

Members of the running club raise thousands by taking part in the Great North Run

Members of Poynton Runners, a local running club, showed their true colours by raising an incredible £3,000 for St Ann’s at the Great North Run.

Jason Walker, a member of Poynton Runners, decided to sign up before he kicks his rugby career into touch. At 48, Jason realises that his days playing as a front row forward for Macclesfield Rugby Club’s fourth team will eventually be over.

I'll probably hang up my boots before long but wanted to do something to keep active and had never run until a couple of years ago. Poynton Runners is free and run by volunteers. We meet three times a week and our group has runners of all different levels. Some have done marathons and others had never run at all.
I really enjoy it and everyone can run at their own speed. Seven of us were among 57,000 runners who took part in the Great North Run. It was a great day and we're delighted to raise funds for such a good cause.

Running with Jason were Rob Dunley, Gavin McKay, Charlotte Phillips, Helen Fotheringham, Helen Thompson and Rhona Johnson.

Jason raised almost £1,000 with clients and staff at his digital marketing company Search and More (searchandmore.co.uk) supporting his fundraising efforts.
