The people of Greater Manchester never stop amazing me with their passion, community spirit and love of this fantastic place we call home.

As Chief Executive of St Ann’s Hospice, I see this passion and spirit tenfold every day.  Whether that’s from the people who choose to make a donation or go above and beyond to help us raise the £20,000 we need to fundraise every day to keep our services going; the incredible army of more than 700 volunteers who help us in so many ways, or the members of our local community who choose to buy goods from our online shop or one of our fourteen high street stores.

Seeing everyone come together to help us to care for others makes me so proud that our charity is here in Greater Manchester.  That’s always the case at our Manchester Midnight Walk, which is our flagship fundraising event that takes place in the city centre each year.  It’s a sponsored 10km walk which takes in some of our most famous landmarks, and it really does show Greater Manchester’s community spirit at its very best.

The fabulous walkers have raised more than £2million since it began thirteen years ago, and the money has helped us to really make a difference to the lives of thousands of local patients and their loved ones.

We’ve just launched this year’s Manchester Midnight Walk and as last year was a sell-out, we’re encouraging as many people as possible to sign up.

Every year we have lots of people taking part in fancy dress, and this year we’re encouraging people to embrace the Manchester Bee theme too – after all the Manchester Midnight Walk’s famous colours are black and yellow!  Don’t worry if fancy dress isn’t your thing though, as everyone is welcome.  People walk for lots of reasons, whether it’s to remember someone special, or simply for a fantastic evening of fun and entertainment with their family or friends.

It would bee brilliant if you joined us at this hive of activity to help raise money for our patients.  It’ll make us feel all s’warm and fuzzy and give us a real buzz.  And if you sign up, I promise not to do any more of these terrible bee jokes, I’ll beehive and will stop pollen your leg.

Go on.  You really wanna-bee a part of it.
