Our Stockport Shop – Behind the Creativity

Our vintage Stockport shop has gained attention for its unique items and window displays. Now we want to share with you the creativity behind the windows.

Our vintage shop is one of a few hidden treasures in Stockport, boasting a fantastic range of rare vintage items, from clothing, Singer sew machines, crockery, books and vinyls, among many more items.

Although our Stockport shop has gained attention from the wonderful medley of items, it’s not just the items inside the shop but also the extravagant and carefully pieced together windows that quite often depict a story or reflect a season.

Shop manager, Christina Green and assistant managers, Rachel and Julia come up with the ideas together to create these eye-catching windows.

Christina said:

Every window we design takes about a month to do because we have to come up with the concept, make sure we have the items in store and sometimes we even hand make items. It’s just our way of trying to showcase the genuinely unique items that get donated to us, whilst helping us stand out from other charity shops and stores. Christina Green, Shop Manager

This year we did temporarily close for a short period, Christina, Julia and Rachel tried to use the window space to cheer up those passing by, and to entice people in when the shop re-opened.

New Year saw a roaring 20s theme with a stylish display that represented the iconic era.

‘Dream big in February’ saw children from the local community design their own person which was then made into a dress.

In March the team hoped to brighten up the streets during lockdown with a ‘Dash of Colour.’

Throughout July the window had an ‘At Home Festival’ theme that brought summer festivals to your own back garden.

In August and September, the shop front explored ‘Fashion through the Ages,’ taking unique pieces to bring to life notable styles.

At the start of October, the shop hosted a ‘Harvest Festival’ window with warm orange tones.

I love getting creative and making my and the teams ideas come to life. It really is a team effort and we’re so lucky that we can be so creative and explore different looks for the shop front. Christina Green, Shop Manager

Christina, who once dressed windows for Harvey Nichols has used her skills to create masterpieces at the Stockport shop front.

It’s great to see the teams come together to create these creative displays that attract so many people to our shop. Christina and her team are very clever at using donated items or making designs from scratch for the windows. Amanda Brooks, Head of Trading

Our Stockport shop has been making waves in the city for a number of years due to the vast selection of one-off items, collectables and in some cases, first-edition novels.

Currently, the Stockport shop is temporarily closed following government guidelines, however, Christina maintains the styling of the windows and is keen to welcome customers back to the safe environment of the store once restrictions are lifted
