Time for tea

We’re asking as many local people as possible to join our Time for Tea campaign in September, by making a brew in aid of the hospice.

As a charity, we need to raise around £16,000 a day to keep our services running.  We’re always so grateful for everything people do to support the hospice, and we’re hoping that those of you who enjoy a cuppa will be happy to join our latest fundraiser.

We’re encouraging people to make a brew for their neighbours, catch up with colleagues over a cuppa, or take time out with their friends, in exchange for a pound or two donation to the hospice.  Every penny raised will help us to support the local patients we care for – and don’t forget you could always have biscuits or cake too!

We’ve produced a special information pack to help community groups, churches, local businesses, schools, families and individuals to plan a tea party, get together, coffee morning, cake sale or bake off.  The pack comes complete with posters and recipes to inspire you to hold the best brew break possible.

One person who knows just how important tea can be is Barbara Kelly, one of our fantastic volunteers.

Barbara has volunteered in our coffee shop in Heald Green since September 2015, and loves tea.  She likes it strong, with no sugar.

Barbara’s husband Brian passed away at the hospice last year, so she knows the importance of the coffee shop for relatives of patients who use it on a regular basis.

The coffee shop is so important for relatives, and it is a space where they can take a break and have a cup of tea.  When my husband was in the hospice I often spoke to the coffee shop volunteer and it really helped to have someone to chat to. Barbara Kelly, Coffee Shop Volunteer

Barbara loves volunteering at the hospice and often receives thank you cards from our patients and relatives, thanking her for taking the time to chat to them at a very difficult time in their lives.

This is why St Ann’s is so important, and why your Time for Tea event will make a real difference!
