Our 50 in 50 Challenge for the Great Manchester Run

We're inviting people across Greater Manchester to tighten their shoelaces in a special challenge to raise money for our patients.

We’re inviting people across Greater Manchester to tighten their shoelaces in a special challenge to raise money for our patients.

For our 50 in 50 challenge, we’re appealing for over 50 people to take part in this year’s Great Manchester Run in aid of St Ann’s – and for each participant to aim to finish the 10km distance in 50 minutes.

In previous years, we have hosted a Sixty in 60 challenge, which was devised by long-term supporter Mitchell Brough, but this year, we’re making it slightly different as we celebrate our 50th birthday.

Emmerdale star Chris Bisson, who took part in the Sixty in 60 challenge, said:

St Ann’s is a really special place that’s been looking after our community for 50 years.  It’s difficult to explain just how wonderful St Ann’s is. It’s a warm, welcoming place that wraps its arms around people when they’re at their most vulnerable. Although the care to patients and families is completely free, it actually takes a huge amount of money to be able to do that. I’m hoping that everyone will get behind St Ann’s on this run and we can try and make a real difference. Chris Bisson

The Great Manchester Run will be taking place on Sunday 26th September 2021, with a brand-new route for runners to enjoy.  The 50 in 50 challenge will be open to all St Ann’s runners but this is an optional challenge for runners who wish to push themselves further for our hospice. We would still love to also welcome other runners who would like to complete the run in their own time, as part of #TeamStAnns

Team members running for St Ann’s will get free entry into the run, with the charity asking that they try to raise a minimum of £200 sponsorship for the hospice. They’ll also have the opportunity to attend training events, will receive a free #TeamStAnns running vest and a special fundraising pack. There will also be a post-event party to celebrate the achievements of our runners.

The Great Manchester Run has been a staple fundraiser for St Ann’s for many years. We’re so thankful to everyone who takes part and helps raise funds for our hospice – it really does make a difference. This year, for our 50th birthday, we are asking supporters to take part in our 50 in 50 challenge, but also welcoming other supporters to run at their own pace. We can’t wait to see you all there, so please sign up and help support St Ann’s for our golden year. Rachel McMillan, Chief Executive
