Remembering a special volunteer of 16 years, Sarah Smith

By Gemma Peers on August 2, 2023

Sarah Smith was a volunteer for 16 years at St Ann’s Hospice’s Romiley shop. Sarah was from Leigh and dedicated many years as a volunteer at the shop, helping with customer service needs, events and generally helped with the shop as a whole.

Sarah’s colleague and friend Esme Evans, Romiley shop manager, says: “Sarah really was so lovable and truly one of life’s characters. Sarah always said what she thought and everyone loved her for that, you could never be serious with her!

She was a very good friend to me and the other volunteers at the shop, we were all grateful for Sarah’s help and thanked her for everything she’d done for St Ann’s Hospice. Esme Evans, Romiley Shop Manager

Sarah died in July and will be remembered for her dedication to the shop that she volunteered at for over a decade.

Before volunteering at the Romiley shop Sarah had worked at an auction house, and once retiring wanted to give something back to the hospice that had cared for a family member of hers years before.

We really are like a family at the shop, everyone takes care of each other and helps with everything. We will really miss Sarah at the shop and will remember her wit and kindness. Esme Evans, Romiley Shop Manager
