Friends raise money through open water swimming in memory of loved ones
Two friends brave icy-cold waters to help fundraise for St Ann's Hospice.

Paula and Maxine have been challenging themselves with open water swimming, raising money for their loved ones who were cared for by our hospice.
Paula and Maxine have always swam together and love being outside in the open water. The pair have swam in open water at least twice a month from November 2023 to March 2024, sometime in wetsuits and sometimes bravely in swimsuits. They both enjoy being out in nature and swam mainly in open water in Wigan and Bury.
St Ann’s is close to Maxine’s heart as we cared for her father-in-law Denis who had lung cancer. Denis attended the Being You Centre around 10 years ago.
St Ann’s Hospice helped my lovely father-in-law Denis in the last few months of his life. He loved visiting St Ann’s every Friday and would come home telling us how good his day was. We will forever be grateful for that. Maxine
Paula has been connected to St Ann’s for some years with friends and family members being cared for by our hospice. In 2023 Paula’s uncle was a patient at St Ann’s.
My uncle received amazing care at St Ann’s Hospice for which we were truly grateful for, there is such a peaceful atmosphere at the hospice which I love. Paula
Maxine and Paula have supported St Ann’s in the past too, volunteering for one of our Midnight Walks and face painting at our fairs.
Maxine and Paula have raised an incredible £637 for our hospice, and we are so grateful for their support.
