At St Ann’s we’re proud that we get great feedback from our patients and their families about the care they receive, and we hope you enjoy reading some of their comments as part of our #StAnnsCare blog series.

We’re excited to announce that this month teams at the hospice, and our supporters, have also been recognised in a different way – by being chosen as finalists for not one, but two regional awards!

We’ve been chosen as a finalist in the ‘Fundraising Campaign’ category of the North West Charity Awards for our Accumulator Challenge appeal, which saw businesses compete to see whose team could accumulate most profit from £100 in a month.

St Ann’s corporate fundraising team – Helen Gazard and Jo Burton – led the initiative, and were thrilled that forty businesses agreed to take part.  Teams could choose to spend the initial capital of £100 however they saw fit – as long as it was legal – and could reinvest or put all their money behind one big activity.

The challenge was sponsored by Swizzels, who sponsored prizes for the campaign, and On the 7th at MediaCityUK, who kindly donated the venue for the launch and finale award events.

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who supported the campaign which raised thousands of pounds for St Ann’s, and we’re excited to find out if we are winners at the North West Charity Awards event in October.

In addition to the Fundraising Campaign award category, we’re also pleased to announce that one of our supporters, Stockport Homes Group, has been shortlisted as finalists in the Outstanding Charity Support by a Small Company category.

We’re thrilled, as Stockport Homes Group has been working with our charity for 19 months, and the whole team there has gone above and beyond to raise both money and awareness of our cause.

They’ve taken part in scores of activities to raise funds for the local patients we care for, including a dragon boat race, the Great Manchester Run, climbing Snowdon, holding bake sales, joining our Christmas Elfie campaign, hosting tea parties, entering a team for our ObstaColour Run…their energy is non-stop, as shown when they also recently took part in a special 24 hour cycling challenge (Cyclone 24) at the National Cycling Centre to raise money for us!

They also showed their entrepreneurial skills last October, when they took part in the Accumulator Challenge, turning the £100 they were given at the start of the month into an impressive £3,038.31.  This huge profit generated gained them the title of The Ultimate Accumulator.

They also hold regular collections of items donated by staff and visitors to their four sites, that can be sold at our fourteen hospice shops in Greater Manchester.  To date the team at Stockport Homes Group has raised more than £25,000 and they’re still planning other fundraising activities for us. But, it’s not only through raising money that they show their support.  The team has also volunteered at events to help our staff, and has even spent days at the hospice doing gardening to ensure our surroundings are as beautiful as possible for our patients and their families.

We really can’t thank them enough for all of their tireless support, and can’t wait to see if they win this well-deserved accolade at the ceremony in October!
