Message from Rachel McMillan

By Rachel McMillan on December 15, 2020

“2020 has certainly been a year we will all remember – a challenging year, a difficult year, and at St Ann’s Hospice, a very busy year.

“Our team has been continuing to work hard on the front line to ensure our patients and their loved ones have still been able to access world-class palliative and end of life care throughout the pandemic.

“But, as the year draws to a close, I felt it was important to take a moment to reflect and to – most importantly – give thanks to everyone who has supported the hospice over the last twelve months and beyond.

“Despite the hardships and extreme challenges we’ve all faced in 2020, it’s been incredible to see people continuing to think of St Ann’s and give support to our patients.

“As many of you will know, as a charity we need to raise £20,000 a day to provide specialist care from our three hospice sites and our range of community and outreach services.

“We support thousands of local people every year and we simply wouldn’t have been able to continue providing that care for local people with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses without the generosity of our local communities. I’m so proud to be part of a city where people always think of others and put them first.

Huge thanks to everyone who has supported us in some way. Whether that’s by sharing our social media posts to help us spread the word, visiting our shops, playing our hospice lottery, making a donation, or giving time to help out or organise your own fundraiser – we simply wouldn’t be here without your support and we’ll always be hugely grateful.

“I’m sure there’ll be more challenges ahead in 2021, but at St Ann’s we’ll continue to seek opportunities to evolve, collaborate and maintain our resilience as we ensure our patients needs are met. We will be celebrating an important milestone in our history too as we approach our 50th anniversary and look back at days gone by, as well as ahead to exciting developments to come.

“Thanks again to everyone who has helped us, or who is thinking of making a donation over the festive period. We really do appreciate it, and it makes such a difference to the lives of the people we support.”
