Celebrating Hospice Care Week 2023

By Gemma Peers on October 10, 2023

Hospice Care Week takes place between the 9 – 15 October 2023 and is an opportunity to celebrate all the work hospices do, and the people who do it, to ensure everyone can benefit from the best end of life care possible.

This week, we caught up with some of our wonderful members of staff to find out what they enjoy most about working at St Ann’s Hospice.

"It is a pleasure and a privilege to be allowed into people’s homes to help to support them to be cared for at home. It is their wish to stay at home and it means so much to be able to be part of the team that allows them to achieve this." Jo Laidlaw, Hospice@Home Team Leader
It is always in the back of my mind with whatever I do at work, that everything I am doing is for the benefit of patients and helps them even in the smallest way. That makes everything I do worthwhile. Stephen Davidson, Maintenance Driver
I really enjoy helping our patients and supporting them to get the most out of every day. It is really fulfilling to help them achieve their potential. It surprises some people that working at a hospice isn’t always about sadness and loss and that it is actually a really positive and happy place to be. Ann-Marie Higney, Staff Nurse
I love meeting all the different people that come to St Ann’s and to help the patients and their families. It can be the little things that can make a big difference – like helping a person put on their makeup to make them feel valued and more like their normal self. Hayley Swanson, Healthcare Assistant
I enjoy working as part of a team and helping to make a difference to the patients and their families that we care for. I am looking forward to the new hospice in Heald Green and a better future for St Ann’s. Wendy Barker, Catering Assistant
Having had a family member attend St Ann's as a patient in the 1970’s, I feel as though I am giving something back by working for the hospice. Every day is varied and there are always challenges to resolve and help with. Peter Langdon, IT Assistant
For me it’s the people, the warm and friendly staff make my job easier as its always a pleasure when people pop into the office. Rebecca Grant, People & Education Administrator
