The Howard Charity Gala

Faye Howard, from Walkden, has organised The Howard Charity Gala for the last three years to raise money for St Ann’s Hospice after the care her mum, Mel, received when she was a patient there.

Mel was diagnosed with lung cancer and attended St Ann’s Hospice in Little Hulton initially as a day care patient before her condition deteriorated and she became an inpatient where she died aged 52 in December 2016.

The fundraising event, in her memory, will take place at Albert’s Worsley on Saturday October 12. Tickets are £35 and include a BBQ buffet, entertainment from a saxophonist and DJ, plus there will be a raffle and auction to raise more money on the night.

This year the special event will take place four days after Mel’s 55th birthday, so the event will be even more poignant and she will be the toast of family and friends at the gala to celebrate her life.

It’s not just Faye, who has been fundraising for St Ann’s, her dad, Paul, has taken part in many different sporting events over the year which has contributed to their total.

The care my mum received at St Ann’s was truly amazing, it was really personal to her and the doctors and nurses really tailored everything to her needs and wishes. As a family we were all made to feel welcome and we were able to stay over in one of the family rooms. The last two events have been really great nights and everyone really gets behind raising money for St Ann’s. Last year the DJ even managed to auction off a tin of beans for £45! I think we’ve already raised over £10,000 from the gala and sporting events and our target is to raise £20,000, as we want to be able to help pay for a day of care. Faye Howard
