Sam’s Story

I’m supporting St Ann’s Hospice’s Forget Me Not Appeal to raise much-needed funds for the charity.

Our mum died in 2020 following a diagnosis of terminal lung cancer. Her illness was short and the support we received from St Ann’s during this period was so important to her and us as a family.

Mum was referred to the hospice for symptom control and spent two weeks under their care in May 2020. Due to the pandemic there were restrictions in place, but the hospice staff did everything to make sure that Mum was supported. The care she received at the hospice was exceptional.

Due to the care Mum received at the hospice, she was able to return home to her family and spend her final weeks in the place that she loved. Her symptoms were well managed and she closed her eyes peacefully on 14th June 2020.

We truly can’t thank St Ann’s enough for the support they gave Mum and we have continued to be part of their community, and raise money for them as a family by supporting appeals and taking on fundraising challenges.

Mum was a champion of the hospice and valued the time she spent there. I’ll always remember that she said that the staff were lovely and the food at the hospice was the best, fair praise from a notoriously harsh critic!
