Volunteering Hours:

Department and Location of Volunteering Role:

Rehab Team Little Hulton Hospice site

Purpose of Volunteering Role:

To assist the Complementary Therapy Team to provide therapies to patients & carers in line with the volunteers qualifications.

Tasks & Activities to be undertaken:

To carry out complementary therapies for in patients, out patients and Being You centre patients.  The therapies delivered at the hospice are: Aromatherapy, Indian Head Massage, Reflexology, Therapeutic Massage and Reiki

  • To assess patients to determine suitability for his/her chosen therapy and adapt intervention as needed to suit patient need.
  • To provide complementary therapy treatments to Inpatients, and Outpatients
  • To maintain confidentiality, privacy and dignity of the patient/carer at all times
  • Ensure working area is left tidy with oils/creams stored correctly.
  • Used towels to be taken to the laundry.
  • To work within the limits of your qualification and within the Hospice Complementary Therapy Policy.
  • To complete the necessary EMIS data (patient notes)
  • To leave the working area ready for the next complementary therapist on duty.

Qualifications/Skills/Experience

Essential:

A recognized complementary therapy qualification to deliver two  or more of the following: Aromatherapy, Indian Head Massage, Reflexology, Therapeutic Massage or Reiki. Please see examples below of suggested qualifications/awarding bodies. However this list is not exhaustive so please contact us if you feel you have an appropriate qualification:

  • Aromatherapy Regulation Working Group
  • Vocational Training Charitable Trust
  • The Reflexology Forum/ AoR/IFPA
  • The British Association of Massage Therapy
  • Second Degree Reiki
  • Minimum of 1 year experience delivering therapies.
  • An ability to work within a team structure, and to also work independently within the Hospice.
  • A friendly and sensitive nature with a caring disposition.

Desirable:

Experience of working with patients with a range of medical conditions including palliative conditions and adapting therapies accordingly.

NB We will require 2 references, 1 of these should be from a tutor/client in the Complementary Therapy field.

Training & Support Provided:

Training Provided:

  • Shadowing the complementary therapist for a period of on-the-job training with one of the Complementary Therapists on duty, Invitation to Hospice induction.
  • EMIS electronic patient record training.
  • Online mandatory training will need to be completed asap after commencing via Moodle portal
  • Annual Mandatory Moving and Handling Training

The successful candidate will be subject to an Enhanced DBS Check, the cost of which is covered by the hospice.

Any post holder within the organisation will be expected to undertake safeguarding training appropriate to their role and adhere to safeguarding policies and procedures. All staff must work in accordance with their statutory roles and responsibilities in relation to safeguarding in accordance with the Working Together to Safeguarding Children 2018, The Care Act 2014, and Prevent Duty 2015.
