Dave and Terry’s story

Dave Callan is supporting this year's Light up a Life appeal in memory of his twin brother Terry.

Terry was my twin brother and best mate. Every time we had a birthday ending in a zero we had a joint party and asked for donations to St Ann’s Hospice instead of presents.

It was the least we could do after they cared for so many of our family and friends over such a long period of time.

We maintained the tradition for our 70th celebrations in September 2022. Sadly, it was Terry’s last birthday – eight months later he died of long-standing heart problems.

St Ann’s were there for Terry and us when we needed them. He was an outpatient at the Being You Centre and an inpatient after his condition deteriorated.

He stabilised once at St Ann’s and even found a new lease of life. He loved it there and they loved him.

Terry was a character; his infectious sense of humour made everyone smile.  Every time we left him he always said ‘keep smiling.’

You get the most fantastic care at St Ann’s. From the doctors and nurses to the caterers and cleaners they’re all brilliant.

That care is available to everyone free of charge. But the hospice desperately needs donations to help people like Terry.

So if you can donate to St Ann’s Hospice please do. It doesn’t matter how much.

Terry’s last wish was that donations from his funeral went to the hospice. I miss you bro … keep smiling.
