St Ann’s Hospice selected as one of the new Ceremonial Mayor of Salford’s chosen charities

The new Ceremonial Mayor of Salford, Councillor Gina Reynolds, has selected St Ann’s Hospice as one of her nominated charities to support.

On Sunday 21st May The Ceremonial Mayor and Consort took part in the Civic Sunday Parade and Service starting at the Town Hall, Civic Centre and headed towards St Peter’s Church in Swinton.

Our Fundraising Manager, Lucy Leeming, went along to the event to meet Councillor Gina to celebrate the ceremonial event.

This wonderful charity is close to my heart and very personal to me. Sadly, both my mum and auntie passed away peacefully at St Ann’s Hospice. They received excellent end-of-life care and I was provided with fantastic support from the caring staff. I can’t thank them enough and wanted to give something back.

We are honoured to have been chosen by Councillor Gina as one of her charities, with our Little Hulton site being a vital part of the community in Salford.

We are delighted to be chosen by the Ceremonial Mayor of Salford Cllr Gina Reynolds as one of her selected charities during her term of office.

Lucy Leeming, Fundraising Manager

Lucy added, “We feel honoured to have the opportunity to work with Madam Mayor and her charity committee to raise vital funds and awareness for St Ann’s Hospice. We cannot wait to get started and help put together some exciting plans. Thank you so much to Madam Mayor.”

Our partnership will start with a committee meeting on 14th June, where we will start planning fundraising events for the upcoming months.

The Ceremonial Mayor is also supporting START – Inspiring Minds and Agnes Hopkins Community Centre during her term in office.

Who will win the first ever Manchester Donation Derby?

As Manchester City and Manchester United prepare to face each other in the first ever Manchester derby FA Cup Final this weekend, St Ann’s Hospice is hosting the inaugural Manchester Donation Derby!

We’re asking all City and United fans to donate the price of a match day pint to your team’s page.

This is all in aid of raising funds for our Build It Together campaign, which will build a much-needed new hospice in Heald Green.

Which team will be the first to fund a solar panel, a family room or even a patient bedroom?

We’re so excited to be launching our first ever Manchester Donation Derby! With the match set to keep everyone on the edge of their seats, it’s a great time to get involved in raising money for our new hospice and to get your favourite team to win.

Anne-Marie Wynne, Head of Fundraising and Capital Appeal, St Ann’s Hospice

If you’re a fan of neither team in the final but still want to take part in the Donation Derby and help to build the new hospice, you can! You can give to the overall campaign, instead of the team pages for City and United.

You can donate now to help your team win and support St Ann’s Hospice.

At the time of writing, United are in the lead. Will they see it through or will City make a comeback? May the best team win!

Blooming lovely garden opened to raise money for new hospice

A dedicated supporter of St Ann’s Hospice is opening her garden to the public again to raise money for our new hospice building in Heald Green.

Elaine Land is opening her garden on Sunday 28th May for people to go and visit it in support of the Build It Together campaign. Having opened her garden to the public for more than 25 years as part of the National Garden Scheme, Elaine is excited to gather people again this summer.

Last year was the first year Elaine held an open garden event to fundraise for the hospice and raised over £1100! After last year’s event Elaine said “Gardening is a huge passion of mine, and a big part of my life. So it’s a pleasure to share it with other people and it’s an excellent way to fundraise.”

In anticipation of the opening this year, Elaine says:

I’m delighted to be opening my garden again this year in support of St Ann’s much-needed new hospice in Heald Green. The garden is looking particularly lovely at the moment with the fabulous Wisteria and Candelabra Primulas in the pond area in full bloom. I know an awful lot of people that raise money for hospices, and I wanted to do something local to me.

Elaine Land, St Ann’s Hospice supporter

The Build It Together campaign is raising the final £2 million that we need to build our new hospice. This will replace our current Victorian building, which is in urgent need of replacement as it needs continual and costly repairs.

We are incredibly grateful for Elaine’s support of our Build It Together campaign. It is only through the support of the community that the new building will become a reality. We are very excited to see her garden come to life with people, plants and everything in between!

Anne-Marie Wynne, Head of Fundraising and Capital Campaign

Elaine’s garden will be open from 2pm until 6pm on Sunday 28th May and can be found at 73 Hill Top Avenue, Cheadle Hulme, Stockport, SK8 7HZ. There will also be plants for sale and refreshments available.

The admission for the garden is £4 for adults, with children entering for free. All proceeds will go towards St Ann’s Hospice’s Build It Together appeal.

For more information about Elaine’s event, please contact our Fundraising Team on 0161 498 3631 or supporter@sah.org.uk.

Who let the dogs in?

Pure Offices in Cheadle hosted many of their office occupiers and their dogs for a day to raise money for St Ann’s Hospice.

As their chosen charity of the year, we were delighted to visit Pure Offices to introduce our mascot Stann to all of their furry friends!

Hosting the bring your dog to work day, Pure Offices are a serviced office provider where businesses can rent smart contemporary offices with high quality amenity areas to enjoy and thrive.

Those who brought their dog to work for the day made a donation to our Build It Together appeal. At midday there was a lunchtime dog walk which included some treats for the paw-some pets!

Enjoying the visit, Stann the mascot was pleased to have met so many smiley and excited dogs. Many of the dogs posed with Stann and are certified fundraisers for the hospice now too.

We had a great day all round even with a rainy group walk. Thanks so much to our lovely occupiers for taking part and helping to raise money for our charity of the year!

We are incredibly grateful for the support of Pure Offices, Cheadle and their occupiers. The support we have received has really boosted our fundraising and it was great to meet such paw-tastic fundraisers on the day. We are very excited for our new hospice to come to life and support from businesses like this brings the reality of a new hospice ever closer.

Three generations taking to the streets for the Manchester Midnight Walk to raise money for St Ann’s Hospice

My family and I are so excited to be taking part in our first St Ann’s Hospice Manchester Midnight Walk in a few weeks!

We all have a special connection to the charity after my mum, Margaret, was cared for by the hospice in her final years before she died of lung cancer in 2020.

My dad, Keith, is 94 years old and can’t wait to take part in the walk! He received a flyer about the event through the post and we’ve gathered family members to take part and walk with him.

As one of the oldest people to be taking part in the Midnight Walk my dad is lucky enough to have the number 94 for the event!

Alison Boden, Fundraiser

We will have three generations of our family walking together and we’re all trying to raise as much money as possible for St Ann’s Hospice. My son and daughter, along with their loved ones, are coming to Manchester so that we can all support my dad which will mean so much to us.

My dad is in a wheelchair so hasn’t been able to explore Manchester city centre recently, so we’re excited for him to experience the city again!

My dad’s goal for the Midnight Walk is to walk over the start and finish line, and we’re determined to make this happen for him.

The hospice did so much for mum who we miss every day, the nurses were brilliant and gave her the best end of life care we could’ve hoped for. It was so nice to have someone other than a family member to talk to and we all really treasured that.

We’re really excited to take part and meet lots of other people who have lovely connections to the hospice. Raising as much money as possible in memory of my mum would be brilliant so we can support St Ann’s which means so much to us all.

For groups of four or more like my family you can get a discounted price of £15 per person, so get your friends and family together to take part in the event!

To find out more about the Manchester Midnight Walk please see St Ann’s Hospice’s website here www.sah.org.uk. You can also contact the events team by emailing events@sah.org.uk or calling 0161 498 3631.

Ben says: “My company Studio 91 Media has been producing video content for St Ann’s for four years, and in that time we’ve seen first-hand what a beautiful, necessary charity it is. Just a bunch of kind, hard-working people going above and beyond to help people die well.

Before working with them, I had assumed they got all their funding from the NHS, but this isn’t the case. In fact, they need to raise about £20,000 a day just to keep their doors open.”

As they start to build their much-needed new facility, they need our support more than ever.”

Abseil down Trafford Palazzo with St Ann’s Hospice: “It was the best thing I did last year!”

On Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th June you could take part in the Trafford Palazzo Abseil and raise money for St Ann’s Hospice.

Lisa Roberts took on the challenge last year after her friend Gayle Shaw, our Corporate Fundraiser, recommended the event to her.

“My friend Gayle does so much charity work she’s very inspiring. I wanted to volunteer more and take part in events that raise money for the hospice. A very close friend of mine also passed away last year, which spurred me on to do a personal challenge that would put myself out of my comfort zone.”

“As I climbed up the stairs of the Trafford Palazzo, I was absolutely terrified! I really didn’t think I could do it once I got to the top, but there were so many supportive people who said I could do the challenge.”

“It’s an amazing challenge, and I’ve enjoyed it so much that I’m doing it again this year!”

Lisa Roberts, Fundraiser

For a discounted price of £30, you could take part in the largest abseil event in the North West this summer. You could be abseiling 170 feet down the side of Barton Square Tower with lots of other brave supporters!

“We’re so excited for the Trafford Palazzo Abseil! It’s great for a team building day or for you to take on your own personal challenge.

Sarah Wolstenholme, Events Fundraiser

“We ask that the minimum sponsorship you raise for this event is £250. The money you raise will help our hospice to keep providing specialist care to people affected by life-limiting illnesses across Greater Manchester.”

Lisa says: “I felt so proud of what I had achieved for the hospice and for myself. Raising money for such a great charity is what has inspired me to take on the abseil again this year.

“Everyone at the event is constantly cheering you on, it’s a wonderful experience.”

Lisa Roberts, Fundraiser

St Ann’s Hospice announces over £50,000 raised from Christmas tree collections at the start of the year!

We have been in partnership with JustHelping, who are a Manchester-based charity who facilitate a national Christmas Tree Collection across England and North Wales.

The long-awaited total of the money raised from the collections at the start of the year has been announced, with St Ann’s Hospice raising £56,771.09 from the collection!

The collections that JustHelping run every year is completed by community volunteers, sponsors and donors and has been running for nine years.

The tree collections were made possible through Amazon vans that were given to the team on loan to be used to collect the Christmas trees, #TogetherWithAmazon.

This year, we added 14 new postcode areas we could collect from in Salford, Trafford, Manchester and Stockport.

The Christmas trees were shredded into chippings at their destinations, Wythenshawe Park and Wardley Hall, which have been used on site for flower beds and pathways.

Our Fundraising Manager Lucy Leeming says: “We’re delighted to have raised so much money from our collections this year. By collecting Christmas trees from more postcodes we were able to recycle even more trees than before, and this has made such a difference to the amount raised!”

We are absolutely thrilled with the success of the 2023 Christmas Tree Collection. This year we had a 50% increase in the trees collected and recycled and are delighted to have been able to raise £56,771.09 for St Ann’s Hospice.

Tom Laverty, Development Manager at JustHelping

“We’ve raised a further £6,307.90 for fourteen other local charities and community groups across Greater Manchester. Thank you to all of the volunteers who supported the project through its entirety- without you none of this would be possible!”
